Abstract
This chapter examines methodological approaches for analyzing and interpreting data collected in sensory research. It addresses the traditional quantitative-qualitative divide in psychology research methods and proposes an integrated framework that acknowledges both the scientific rigor of quantitative approaches and the contextual richness of qualitative analysis. The authors discuss how researchers can make meaningful interpretations of sensory data while respecting the ecological validity of participants’ experiences.

In Sensory Experiences: Exploring meaning and the senses

This chapter addresses methodological approaches for analyzing data collected in sensory research, challenging traditional divisions between quantitative and qualitative methods in psychology. Published as part of the book Sensory Experiences: Exploring meaning and the senses by John Benjamins Publishing Company, the chapter bridges experimental approaches with ecological validity considerations.

The authors discuss how researchers can move beyond simplistic quantitative-qualitative divisions to develop integrated analytical frameworks that respect the complexity of human sensory experiences while maintaining scientific rigor. This chapter appears in the methodological section of the book, providing practical guidance for researchers working on sensory perception studies.
