A Grammar of Muylaq' Aymara: Aymara as Spoken in Southern Peru

This book presents the first comprehensive grammatical description of Muylaq’ Aymara, a highly endangered variety of Aymara spoken in the remote Andean village of Muylaque in Southern Peru. Based on extensive fieldwork and natural language data collection, it documents the unique linguistic features of this previously undescribed variety.
The grammar provides a detailed analysis of Muylaq’ Aymara’s phonetics, phonology, morphology, and syntax, complemented by interlinear glosses of several personal narratives. The work reveals numerous linguistic features unique to this variety that contribute significantly to our understanding of variation within the Aymara language family.
Beyond its descriptive contribution, this grammar serves as a crucial resource for linguistic typology, language contact studies, and efforts to document and preserve endangered languages. It represents an important addition to the documentation of Andean languages and indigenous languages of South America more broadly.
