MSc Speech Tech Students Showcase Research Proposals

Today we held a poster session where our MSc Speech Technology students presented their research proposals to a diverse audience, including faculty members, researchers from the Fryske Akademy, and representatives from Mozilla Fryslân.
The session challenged students to communicate their thesis proposals to a broader audience outside the classroom, allowing them to practice essential communication techniques while receiving valuable feedback from industry and research professionals.
Topics presented included:
- Fine-tuning speech recognition systems for Frisian dialects
- Synthesizing expressive speech with limited data
- Detecting sarcasm in multilingual contexts
- Improving speech technology accessibility for users with speech impairments
- Cross-lingual transfer learning for under-resourced languages
The event fostered connections between our students and potential collaborators, while also highlighting the innovative research happening within our program. We’re proud of our students’ ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders and their enthusiasm for tackling challenging research questions in speech technology.
Special thanks to our partners at the Fryske Akademy and Mozilla Fryslân for their continued support and engagement with our program.
